Christine Szeluga has worked at the Brooklyn Public Library since October 2010. She is currently the Program Manager of Brooklyn Connections where she leads a residency-style education program which collaborates with teachers to create a local history project for middle and high school students. Prior to her tenure at BPL, she was Manager of Outreach and Youth Development at the South Street Seaport Museum where she developed student and teacher programs which fostered meaningful, authentic experiences about the Port of New York. Christine has a B.A. in History and Women’s, Gender and Sexual Studies and an M.S.Ed in Childhood Education from the City University of New York, College of Staten Island. She is a certified teacher with the New York City Department of Education and is currently completing her requirements to become certified in Special Education as well. Her article, “1899 Newsies Strike” was featured in the Winter 2011 issue of Seaport Magazine and she contributed to the PBS documentary, “City Concealed: The Old Fulton Ferry Hotel” as a researcher.
